Programme Note
A Solstice Nocturne was written in the weeks leading up to the winter solstice for a concert taking place a few weeks after the winter solstice. As such, it is a 'nocturnal' contemplation of the longest night of the year, as well as a celebration of the solstice as a turning point, marking the beginning of the days getting lighter again.
